2 Tectonosedimentary Evolution of the Eşen Basin 2.1 Introduction Geological Setting of Sw Turkey

  • Eşen Basin
چکیده

The Eşen Basin is a ca. 30 km long and 15 km wide, NNE-SSW trending young graben which is located in SW Turkey between the Isparta Angle and the Western Anatolian Extensional Province (Fig. 3). The basin has a key position in the south-western part of the Fethiye-Burdur Fault Zone (FBFZ), which is a presumed strike-slip zone with faults that run through numerous small cities and villages. There is a critical need to advance our knowledge and understanding of the history of this complex fault system for two main reasons: 1) A spatial and temporal (4D) basin reconstruction would help to understand the role of the various fault systems, not only on a basin scale, but also within the larger FBFZ. 2) This kind of information is necessary for seismic hazard assessment of the Eşen Basin and its surroundings, which are moderately well studied in this context.

Tectonosedimentary evolution of the basins in Central Alborz, Iran

Evidence of at least ten different tectonic- controlled sedimentary basins can be recognized in the central part of the Alborz Mountains in the Middle part of the Alpine-Himalayan belt. They formed from Neoprotrozoic to recent time as the results of the relative plate motion in southwest of Asia in Tethyan realm. The basins include: (1) Prototethys Late Neo-Proterozoic to Early Ordovician epi-c...

The NW-trending Denizli basin of the SW Turkey is one of the neotectonic grabens in the Aegean extensional province. It is bounded by normal faults on both southern and northern margins. The basin is filled by Neogene and Quaternary terrestrial deposits. Late Miocene- Late Pliocene aged Kolankaya formation crops out along the NW trending Karakova uplift in the Denizli basin. It is a typical flu...
